SEAFORD, Del.- Seaford police say a Georgetown man is facing firearm and drug charges after he was found to be in the possession of a handgun and 100 baggies of heroin.

Police said that on Monday morning officers were on patrol in the area of the Days Inn when they observed the interior light left on inside a Kia Soul parked outside the business. According to police, officers observed a handgun in plain view laying in the floor of the car.  Officers said they continued to watch the car, when at around 8:45 a.m. they attempted to stop it on Sussex Highway, after it left the parking lot.

Police said the car fled and after a brief pursuit the driver - with gun in hand - got out and ran toward the Delux Market on Concord Road. The suspect was taken into custody after a brief foot chase.

Investigators said the suspect, identified as 26-year-old Wilbur L. Doughty, was also found in possession of approximately 100 baggies of heroin and drug paraphernalia. He was charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, resisting arrest, possession of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia and numerous traffic charges. He was ordered held in the Sussex Correctional Institute in lieu of a $35,773 bond.
