ST. MICHAELS, Md.- The sheriff's office arrested and charged a man with assault after deputies say he attacked a victim with a metal construction level.

According to the Talbot County Sheriff's Office, it happened Sunday, Dec. 27 around 11:54 p.m. in the 24000 block of Chester Park Lane.

Deputies said when they responded to a call for an assault in progress, they encountered 38-year-old Monica Brown and 49-year-old Alexander Allen, both of St. Michaels.

The sheriff's office said Brown was bleeding from a deep cut to her right arm.

During the investigation, deputies said Allen hit Brown several times with a metal construction level, causing the cut to Brown's arm.

Deputies said Brown was treated for the injury at Dorchester General Hospital.

According to the sheriff's office, Allen was arrested and charged with 1st Degree Assault, 2nd Degree Assault and Reckless Endangerment.

Deputies said Allen was taken before the District Court Commissioner, where he was temporarily committed due to being intoxicated.

The sheriff's office said Allen was seen again by the District Court Commissioner Dec. 28.
