PRINCESS ANNE, Md.- Authorities have ruled as accidental a New Year's Day fire that caused thousands of dollars in damage to a home in Princess Anne.

The Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office said the incident happened shortly after 9 a.m. at a one story home located at 30455 Brannigan Drive. A neighbor discovered the blaze, which took 21 firefighters approximately 10 minutes to get under control.

The fire caused an estimated $8,000 in damage to the home and another $2,000 in damage to its contents.

Investigators determined the fire was sparked by an electrical malfunction with the light/vent fan in a master bedroom bathroom.
