Suspect Sought After Man Robbed in Dover

DOVER, Del.- Dover police are looking for a suspect wanted for holding up an 18-year-old man at gunpoint early Tuesday morning. 

Police said that shortly after midnight the victim was walking on Maple Lane when an unknown suspect armed with a small handgun approached him and demanded money. 

Police said the suspect grabbed the victim's wallet and his cellphone and then fled from the scene. Investigators said the suspect was described as a black male, approximately 5-foot-8, with a thin build, and wearing a dark jacket with denim chest pockets.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the Dover Police Department at (302) 736-7111. Callers may remain anonymous. Tips can also be submitted to law enforcement through tip lines maintained by Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333.

    With temperatures expected to drop in the coming weeks, fire safety officials are urging people who use space heaters to warm up rooms or homes to be careful in where and when they use the devices.

    Dover Assistant Fire Chief Chris Jacobs said there does tend to be an increased number of space heater fires once it becomes much colder. Those incidents, he said, are often caused by people who place heaters near combustible materials or leave them unattended while still on.
