PRINCESS ANNE, Md.- A nonprofit organization is bringing its mission of free food and fellowship to Princess Anne.

Christian-based Hope Ministries of Delmarva plans to open a meal center on Somerset Avenue in a few weeks.

Steven Milligan, vice president of Hope Ministries, said the meal center serves a great purpose.

"We're bringing a place where people can come that are in need, that need to eat, that are hungry," he said. "We've been working with another organization in Salisbury for a couple of years and we really had a burden to bring this to Somerset County. There's not to our knowledge - there's not anything here like that. So we're looking to not only feed the hungry but also draw the community together."

Tannita Thomas, who lives a short distance away from the meal center's location, said she is thankful to see something like this come to the area.

"Last year was a really tight year for a lot of families including mine, so bringing something to the community that could possibly help us, help the families that need help is really good, a good thing," she said.

Thomas also said it is a great way to get to know people in the community.

"We don't even know our neighbors most of the time and I think that it's a good idea that we get out and fellowship and meet other people," she said. "And we kind of know that we're not alone. You know we don't have those seasonal blues anymore, because we're not the only ones who are struggling."

Organizers said all in need are welcome to come in for a nice sit down meal, once the center opens.
