LAUREL, Del.- The Delaware State Police Homicide Unit arrested a 25-year-old Laurel man in connection with a homicide.

Laurel Police were dispatched around 1:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon for a welfare check on West 6th Street. State Troopers also responded to the location to assist.

Upon arrival,  family members told police they found 61-year-old Yolande Georges dead inside the home. According to police, there were obvious signs of trauma to the woman's upper body which resulted in her death.

Police say the investigation lead officers to the victim's son, who was already in police custody.

Around 8:30 a.m. Thursday morning, a trooper responded to a suspicious person complaint on Bacons in Delmar. Police said the man was reported walking in the middle of the road and acting in a suspicious manner.

Police identified the man as 25-year-old Dukinson Appolon. During contact, police said Appolon attempted to harm to himself which caused the trooper use his taser on the man.

Police said the trooper was able to gain control of Appolon and took him into custody.  He was transported to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Police later determined that Appolon is the victim's son and lives upstairs, and the investigation led police to believe Appolon was a suspect in the case.

He was later charged with 1st-degree murder and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony.

Appolon was transported to Troop 5, Bridgeville where he was processed. He was arraigned at JP2 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution and held without bail.

The Delaware State Police Homicide Unit continues to investigate this incident and no motive has been established at this time.
