Delaware Woman Uses Car to Advertise for Kidney for Father

Posted: Updated:

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP)- A Delaware woman whose father is in need of a kidney donor is using her car to advertise for one.

Twenty-nine-year-old Melissa Miller has written a message on the windshield of her car that reads: "Looking for someone to donate my dad a kidney, Type A-positive or O blood." She also added a phone number to contact.

Her father, 53-year-old Bill Miller, who is sick with end-stage renal failure, has waited six years for a transplant. Melissa Miller says more than 30 strangers offered their kidneys within four months.

Matthew Cooper, a board member at United Network for Organ Sharing, says roughly one-third of organ donors nationwide are not related to or friends with recipients. The nonprofit coordinates organ transplants in the U.S.
