MILLSBORO, Del.- Emergency responders were called to the scene of a serious, two-vehicle collision Tuesday evening.

The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company said it happened just after 5:45 p.m. on Mount Joy Rd. between Virgie's Lane and Cordrey Rd. in Millsboro.

According to firefighters, Mount Joy Rd. in the area of the accident was completely closed off between Cannon Rd. and Cordrey Rd.

Firefighters said they spent almost an hour freeing a person trapped in one of the vehicles.

Fire crews said a gray Honda sedan was traveling north on Mount Joy Rd. while a black Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV was traveling south. They said both vehicles collided nearly head-on.

According to firefighters, the impact of the collision caused the SUV to spin and come to rest almost entirely in the northbound lane near the final resting spot of the Honda.

Firefighters said the Delaware State Police Fatal Accident Investigation Team was required to attend the incident.

No word yet on the extent of any injuries caused by the crash.

Delaware State Police are investigating the collision.
