LAUREL, Del.-  Police arrested a Laurel woman in connection with stealing money from the North Laurel Elementary School Parent-Teacher Organization.

Laurel School District Superintendent Shawn Larrimore wrote in a news release that the school district learned of the theft on January 4. He did not name the suspect in his statements, but said the suspect was put on unpaid leave.

Laurel Police arrested 48-year-old Kimberly Parker on January 5.  Laurel Police Sgt. Adam Coleman says she took more than $2,500 from the organization. She's charged with theft over $1,500.

In the news release from the superintendent, an alleged theft from the local education association was also reported.

Larrimore said the Laurel Education Association (LEA) informed its members of financial irregularities on January 6.

The incident involving the Laurel Education Association remains under investigation.

According to Larrimore, neither of the funds in question belong to or are managed by the Laurel School District.
