CAMBRIDGE, Md.- Across Delmarva Thursday morning, people woke up to snow. And with more on the way, hardware stores like E.S. Hubbert & Son in Cambridge are advertising that they have heaters, salt and more. Customers are getting the message.
"So far this morning it's been jam packed. Quite a few people coming in for salt and snow shovels. We've got some heaters left, we have some coming on a truck in a little bit," said Richard Starling, an employee at the store.
Other popular items include batteries and deicer. But salt was definitely high on the list for many.
"This morning I came for salt, safe salt. It's for my dog. He's 11 today and he's my best friend on earth," said Dave Stewart.
The salt will keep his sidewalks clear, and his dog's paws in good shape. Kyle Jackson and his family are here for one reason: the sleds.
"We're pretty prepared at home. Naturally we want to get some water today, make sure we have enough water. We have gas for the generators on the farm, so we're preparing for wind and extreme weather," said Kyle's mom, Kelly Jackson.
But what will that weather be?
"I don't like to get too excited, but I don't want to be unprepared either," said Jackson.
"Someone said if you prepare it won't happen, if you won't, it'll be here. So I'm prepared. My generator is all gassed up, i have my salt, snow shovel is on the porch, I'm good to go," said Stewart.
If you have to shop, employees say now is the time.
"It's all preparation," Starling said. "Get ahead of the game, so you're ready to go."
After all, who wants to be in 8 inches of snow with no shovel?
