SNOW HILL, Md.- The head of Worcester County Public Schools has announced he is leaving.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jerry Wilson announced Tuesday morning at the Worcester County Board of Education's budget work session that he will not be seeking another four-year term. Wilson said he made the decision after consulting with his family.

"As my family and I have evaluated our plans for the next four years and beyond, I am not able to commit to serving as superintendent for an additional four years as required by Maryland law," Wilson said.

The Board of Education announced that it made a motion in closed session to offer Wilson a one-year extension of his contract, so it can conduct a formal search for his replacement. Wilson's last day is expected to be June 30, 2017, according to the board.
