FINCHVILLE, Md.- A Federalsburg man is facing charges after authorities say he led them on a brief chase and hit a patrol vehicle when he learned they were going to search his car.

The Dorchester County Sheriff's Office says a joint operation between members of the Dorchester and Caroline counties narcotics task forces resulted in a traffic stop Thursday in the area of Routes 392 and 331 at the Finchville light.

According to the sheriff's office, when the driver, 27-year-old Tione Austin, realized a K-9 unit would be scanning his car, he drove away, nearly hitting a Dorchester County deputy sheriff. Deputies chased him to Charles Street in Hurlock after they say he intentionally rammed a Dorchester County Sheriff’s patrol vehicle.

The sheriff's office says Austin was taken into custody and charged with numerous motor vehicle violations along with three counts of first-degree assault, three counts of second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, possession with intent to distribute heroin and possession of heroin.

The drug charges come after deputies say they found Austin in possession of 4.5 grams of heroin and $1,012, which they seized. Austin was ordered to be held without bond.

None of the three involved deputies was injured, according to investigators.
