SALISBURY, Md.- Chipotle restaurants closed for hours on Monday to discuss food safety with its employees. The chain closed all its locations from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. while its staff went over food safety.

CEO Steve Ells fielded questions from employees and spoke about an improved farm-to-fork program. The company is taking these steps following an E. coli outbreak that began last summer.

Customers planning to have lunch at the Chipotle on South Salisbury Boulevard in Salisbury on Monday were confused about what exactly was going on when they found the doors locked.

A sign posted on the front door gave details about the employees' meeting on Monday. Jai Burse came to the Sorth Salisbury Boulevard location for lunch; she said, "I just wish they would have let somebody know before walking up and seeing the sign."

A website address on the sign told customers how to get a raincheck for the troubles the closing may have caused for their lunch plans. By texting a number provided between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Monday, the company gave customers a coupon for a free burrito.
