House OKs Bill to Undo McAuliffe Gun Ban in State Buildings

RICHMOND, Va. (AP)- Virginia's House has approved a bill that seeks to undo Gov. Terry McAuliffe's ban on the open carry of guns in some state-owned buildings.
    
Republican Del. Michael Webert's bill passed the House with a 63-35 vote Thursday. It heads to the Senate and faces a likely veto from McAuliffe.
    
McAuliffe's executive order in October prohibited the open carry of firearms, except by law enforcement officials, in offices used by executive branch agencies. He also instructed a state administrator to propose regulations to ban concealed weapons in those offices.
    
The bill approved by the House would prohibit state entities from adopting or enforcing policies on the possession or storage of firearms, except for certain circumstances. It would void any such policy put in place before July 2016.
