SOUTH BOWERS BEACH, Del. - Delaware State Police have arrested a Felton man for driving under the influence after crashing his truck into a house and fled the scene.

Police said the incident happened Friday, February 12 around 7:35 p.m. They said Donald L. Kittle was driving a Chevrolet Silverado pickup westbound on South Bowers Road. For unknown reasons, the truck left the north side of the road and struck a house located 4384 South Bowers Rd. After hitting the house, DSP said the truck became engulfed in flames. Police said Kittle then fled the scene but was soon located hiding between some houses nearby.

According to police, Kittle, who was uninjured, was taken into custody and a DUI investigation ensued. He was transported back to Troop 3 in Camden where he was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to provide information at a collision scene, failure to report a collision to police, leaving the scene of a property damage collision and failure to have insurance.

Kittle was also charged with offensive touching of a police officer when police said he became disorderly at the troop and pushed a trooper.

South Bowers Beach Fire Company responded to the scene and extinguished the fire to the truck and the house.

Kittle was arraigned at JP3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $2,000 cash bond. No mug shot is available.
