Man Dies in Burned Home Near Onancock

ONANCOCK, Va.- An Accomack County man is dead after the sheriff's office says he was found inside his home that had apparently burned.

According to Accomack County Sheriff Todd Godwin, deputies were called to the home on Northside Road near Onancock just before 9:30 a.m. Monday. Godwin said that when deputies arrived, they found the body of 70-year-old Leland Franklin Helmstetter Jr., and an area inside of the home had burned.

Authorities are considering the fire accidental at this time, but the investigation is ongoing. A medical examiner will determine Helmstetter's cause of death.
