LEWES, Del. -- Overnight lane closures are scheduled this week for what's considered one of Delaware's most dangerous intersections.

The Department of Transportation says nighttime lane closures of the "Five Points Intersection," where SR 1 and Route 9 in Lewes meet, will take place from 8 p.m. Thursday until 5 a.m. Friday. DelDOT says SR 1 northbound and southbound lanes will be down to one lane. This means drivers will need to make right-turns from both side streets in the area of the intersection.

The lane closures are so DelDOT's Traffic Signal Construction Section in conjunction with Rommel Contracting can upgrade the traffic signal cable and traffic control cabinet at the intersection, according to DelDOT.

Police and flaggers will be on-site to direct motorists through the intersection.
