PRINCESS ANNE, Md.- The death of a woman in Princess Anne is under investigation, Maryland State Police said Friday, but carbon monoxide poisoning is suspected.

Police said troopers from the Princess Anne Barracks responded to the Brockett Square Apartments in Princess Anne just after 7:20 p.m. Thursday for a death investigation.

Police said that upon arrival, troopers found 44-year-old Margaret Linnel Kersey of Princess Anne dead in the apartment. Police said another person, who was inside the apartment at the time, was taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center after being found unresponsive.

The apartment's primary heat source was a kerosene heater and elevated levels of carbon monoxide were found, according to police.

An exact cause of death has not yet been determined, police said, but carbon monoxide poisoning has not been ruled out. It could be six weeks or so before an official cause of death is known, police said.

Princess Anne is no stranger to deaths by carbon monoxide. In April of 2015, a family of eight was found dead inside their home from carbon monoxide poisoning.
