STOCKTON, Md.- Investigators with the Worcester County Sheriff's Office have released the name of the driver of a car they say struck and killed one county employee and left another in critical condition Monday afternoon in Stockton.

The driver was identified as 59-year-old Marion Marine Jones Jr. of Stockton.

The accident happened around 1:20 p.m. Monday on Greenbackville Road near Ticktown Road. Investigators said Jones was operating a 2010 Kia southbound when he attempted to pass two Public Works Roads Division employees working on the side of the road.  According to the sheriff's office, the driver swerved to avoid an oncoming vehicle and hit the two employees.

Investigators said 48-year-old Scott Patrick Tatterson of Pocomoke City was pronounced dead at the scene. Twenty-three-year-old Wade Pusey of Seaford, Del., was taken by Maryland State Police helicopter to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. He was last listed in critical condition, according to the sheriff's office.

Jones was taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury with non-life threatening injuries, according to the sheriff's office.

The Worcester County Sheriff's Office Crash Reconstruction Unit is investigating the crash. Anyone with information should call 410-632-1112
