Salisbury Man Charged With Setting Own Car on Fire

FRUITLAND, Md.- A Salisbury man has been charged with arson nearly two months after fire officials say he intentionally set his car on fire in Fruitland.

According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office, 33-year-old Johnny Pierre lit his 2008 Nissan Rouge on fire along South Fruitland Boulevard on Dec. 27, 2015. An initial investigation showed the fire was ignited inside the car's engine compartment, state fire marshals. 

Pierre was taken into custody at his home and charged with second-degree arson, malicious burning/fraud and false misleading information fraud. According to state fire marshals, if Pierre is found guilty of the charges, he could face penalties of up to 40 years in prison and/or $45,000 in fines.
