Hundreds Gather for Biomedical Research Symposium

Posted: Updated:

NEWARK, Del. (AP)- Hundreds of people involved in Delaware's biomedical research community are gathering at the University of Delaware this week to swap ideas and discuss ways to increase basic, clinical and translational research opportunities across the region.
Gov. Jack Markell was among the scheduled speakers Thursday at the inaugural Delaware Biomedical Research Symposium at the University of Delaware.
Thursday's scheduled keynote speaker is Dr. Kathleen Brady, director of the South Carolina Clinical and Translational Research Institute.
Officials say the symposium marks the first time that representatives from three key programs have coordinated efforts for a single meeting.
Those programs are the IDeA Networks of Biomedical Research Excellence, which is aimed at strengthening Delaware's research capabilities, the state's seven Centers of Biomedical Research Excellence, and the Delaware Clinical and Translational Research program.
