REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. - Rehoboth Beach Police charged a drunk driver with multiple charges after he crashes his car onto a curb early Saturday morning.

According to Rehoboth Beach Police, around 12:59 a.m. Saturday, an officer was following 26-year-old Anthony Boehmer of Camden Wyoming in the right lane of Rehoboth Avenue when he failed to properly negotiate the traffic circle. Boehmer then struck the curb along the shoulder of the right lane. The officer immediately stopped the vehicle.

Police said upon pulling Boehmer over, the officer smelled alcohol and observed that the driver was showing indications of impairment. While speaking to Boehmer, the officer said he also saw a clear plastic bag containing marijuana and a glass pipe in the center console of the vehicle. Both were seized and Boehmer was given a field sobriety test and breath test which he failed.

After obtaining a search warrant, officers brought Boehmer to Beebe Health Center for a blood analysis. Boehmer, who refused to allow nurses to draw his blood, had to be restrained by officers. Police said his resistive behavior resulted in a handcuff key being broken off in the set of handcuffs. Officers were able to remove the handcuffs, but both the handcuffs and the key were permanently damaged.

Boehmer was charged with DUI, possession of marijuana and resisting arrest. He was arraigned and issued a $3,050 unsecured bail and released.
