Police: Salisbury Man Arrested for Assault on Deputy, Heroin Charges

SALISBURY, Md. - A Salisbury man faces drug and gun charges after a fight broke out in a large crowd over the weekend.

According to the sheriff's office, deputies were called to the 900 block of West Road Saturday at 9:36 p.m. for an altercation in a big crowd. When deputies arrived, the majority of the people involved scattered, with many running inside a nearby building. Police said the deputies approached a car parked nearby with Cory Walker, 27, of Salisbury, sitting in the front passenger seat. The deputy saw indications of suspected illegal drug use and asked Walker to exit the car, police said.

The Sheriff's office said when one of the deputies attempted to take Walker into custody, he pushed the deputy away, causing the deputy to fall to the ground. Police said a second deputy chased Walker and was able to arrest him and take him into custody. During the arrest, Walker actively resisted the deputy and struggled against attempts to put him into handcuffs, forcing the deputy to physically struggle with Walker, police said.

Police discovered Walker was in possession of heroin in separate baggies and a .38 revolver found to be loaded with hollow point ammunition. Police discovered Walker was convicted of a felony, controlled dangerous substance distribution, back in 2015. A second loaded firearm, a Ruger Mark II semi-automatic handgun, was also discovered on the premises during the investigation, police said. Deputies are still working to determine who may have either dropped or tried to toss out the second gun.

Walker was taken to the Central Booking Unit where he was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. Following an initial appearance, the Commissioner detained Walker in the Detention Center in lieu of $150,000 bond. At bond review, it was changed to "hold without bond" by a District Court Judge.

Walker is charged with possession of a firearm during a drug trafficking crime, possession of a firearm engaged in CDS distribution, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, possession of a regulated firearm by a prohibited person, possession of ammunition by a prohibited person, handgun in vehicle, possession of heroin, possession of heroin with the intent to distribute, assault 2nd degree, and resisting arrest.
