DOVER, Del.- The 436th Airlift Wing commander confirmed Wednesday that Sr. Airman Keifer Huhman, who has been missing since Feb. 7, has been declared deceased.

WBOC reported this Tuesday after speaking with Huhman's mother. She confirmed that three air force officers came to her home Tuesday to inform her of the status of her son. She also told WBOC the officers put it in writing and said they will work with the coroner to issue a certificate.

She said no body has been found, but the family is presuming his life ended at the C & D canal. Huhman's car was found on the northbound shoulder of the Route 1 bridge above the canal, according to police.

Huhman's mother is asking anyone living or working near the C & D canal to keep an eye out for his body.

Colonel Michael Grismer, commander of the 436th Airlift Wing, said Wednesday his condolences go out to Huhman's family.

"Each of us is heartbroken by the loss of our wingman, Keifer," said Grismer. "In moments like this, all of Team Dover feels the impact of such tragedy."

Huhman's mother said a memorial service will be held for him at Dover Air Force Base. The time and date is to be determined.

She tells WBOC the news finally brings some closure to the family.

The Dover Police Department is leading the investigation and tells WBOC it stills consider this case open and under investigation.

Police say Huhman was last seen Feb. 7 leaving his apartment complex in Dover.
