Fire Heavily Damages Ellendale Home

Posted: Updated:

ELLENDALE, Del.- Authorities have ruled as accidental a Thursday morning fire that caused tens of thousands of dollars in damage to a home in Ellendale.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office said blaze broke out shortly after 11 a.m. at a two-story home located on the 500 block of Main Street.

The Ellendale Volunteer Fire Company, assisted by the Milton, and Carlisle fire companies, extinguished the blaze.

According to investigators, firefighters arrived on scene to find fire showing from the second floor of the structure.

There were no injuries and the home was not occupied at the time of the fire, investigators said.

No working smoke detectors were located inside the home, authorities said. They said the home's occupants are staying with relatives.

The investigation revealed that the fire started in the attic area of the structure and was caused by an accidental electrical malfunction, authorities said. Total damages were estimated at $75,000.
