Retired Superior Court Judge Approved for Chancery Post

Posted: Updated:

DOVER, Del. (AP) - The state Senate has unanimously confirmed retired Superior Court judge Joseph Slights III to become a judge in Delaware's Court of Chancery.

Wednesday's vote came after Gov. Jack Markell tapped Slights last month to succeed retiring Vice Chancellor John Noble.

Slight, who lives in Hockessin, was confirmed despite concerns among some downstate lawmakers about a lack of geographic balance on the court.

But Slights, a Dover native, has indicated that he is considering moving back to Kent County.

Slight served 12 years on the Superior Court before retiring in 2012 and going into private practice.

Slights was instrumental in creating the Superior Court's Complex Commercial Litigation Division.

Delaware's chancery court has a national reputation as a venue where disputes involving many of the world's largest corporations are resolved.
