Three Lewes Nurses win $100K on Powerball Ticket

Posted: Updated:

DOVER, Del.- Three nurses at Harbor Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Lewes won $100,000 by playing Powerball

The three winners are Michael Spinazzola, Donna Chunn and Loretta Edwards. According to lottery officials, the co-workers bought the winning ticket at the 7-Eleven in Rehoboth Beach. This isn't the first ticket they've purchased as a group. Spinazzola said he encouraged them to begin playing as a group in December 2015. He normally purchases eight tickets for the Powerball with Power Play at the beginning of the month, and then checks them at the end of the month.

“The day we won, I heard that someone purchased a $100,000 Powerball ticket at the same 7-Eleven I purchased ours, but I really didn’t think anything of it," Spinazzola said. "I just went about my day and checked the numbers later that evening at home like I usually do. I couldn’t believe it when I saw we won. I made the clerk check and double-check to assure me!”

After getting reassured of the win, Spinazzola called his two co-winners immediately.

All three claimed their prize at Lottery Headquarters in Dover on March 16. The three nurses decided to split their winnings evenly, so each person will take home $33,333 (less 25 percent federal tax).
