SALISBURY, Md.- A Salisbury man is behind bars on child abuse and related charges following accusations that he kicked and choked his teenage daughter.

The Wicomico County Sheriff's Office said the incident happened at around 2 a.m. Friday, March 19, at a home on the 8000 block of N. West Road in Salisbury.

According to the sheriff's office, 40-year-old James Andre Hagood became upset with his 15-year-old daughter at which point he physically disciplined her. Investigators said that according to the daughter, Hagood escalated the discipline when he began kicking her in the face while she was on the floor. It is also alleged that Hagood dragged his daughter by the hair and then choked her, according to investigators.

The sheriff's office said that during the investigation, the responding deputy saw signs of injury to the daughter that corroborated her account

Hagoo was charged with first-degree assault, child abuse and reckless endangerment and ordered held in the Wicomico County Detention Center in lieu of $100,000 bond.
