Hotel Staff Lead Police to Human Trafficking Arrest

Posted: Updated:

ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (AP) - Howard County police have charged a man with human trafficking after a staff at an Ellicott City hotel told police they suspected prostitution was occurring in one of their rooms.

Police Chief Gary Gardner said Monday that 39-year-old Berris Munroe of Elkton would take money from a 21-year-old woman after advertising her online as a prostitute and arranging for her to travel from New York on a regular basis.

Authorities say they found Munroe with the woman in a room after staff at the unidentified hotel called the police.

Munroe has also been charged with prostitution and disorderly conduct. It is unclear whether he has an attorney.

Detectives referred the woman to victim advocate services to help her return home to New York.
