Delmar Man Killed in Laurel Crash

Posted: Updated:

LAUREL, Del - The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a Tuesday night crash that killed a Delmar man.

According to police, around 9:41 p.m. Scot A. Adkins, 34, of Delmar, Del., was driving a 1995 Honda Odyssey westbound on County Seat Highway (Route 9) and approaching the intersection with Firetower Road. Adkins' van crossed the eastbound lane, left the roadway and struck a tree with its left side, troopers said. After hitting the tree, the van rotated counterclockwise and overturned before coming to a stop upright on its wheels in the middle of the road, according to police.

Adkins was the only person in the van and was not properly restrained, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The DSP Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the cause of the crash. Police said it is unknown at this time if alcohol was a factor.

Route 9 at Firetower Road was closed for approximately three and a half hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
