DOVER, Del.– Troopers are investigating a deadly crash involving a pickup truck and a bicycle.

It happened just after 2 a.m. Sunday. Police say 23-year-old Mildred Steele was operating a motorized bicycle on North DuPont Highway near the intersection of West Denneys Road.

Police say 21-year-old Nicholas Stonesifer was driving a pickup truck westbound on West Denneys Road and was stopped at the light at the intersection. When the light turned green, police say the pickup truck entered into the intersection and struck the front of the bicyclist who was continuing through the red light.  After impact, police say the Steele was ejected onto the roadway.

Steele, who was not wearing a helmet or reflective clothing, was transported by EMS to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Nicholas Stonesifer was properly restrained and uninjured in the crash.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident.  US13 northbound at West Denneys Road was closed for approximately three hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
