BIRDSNEST, Va.- A West Virginia man was killed after he was thrown from his motorcycle during an accident on Virginia's Eastern Shore, police said Thursday.

According to Virginia State Police Sgt. Michelle Anaya, the accident occurred around 8:30 a.m. Thursday at 9100 Lankford Highway in Birdsnest, involving a motorcycle and an SUV.

Anaya said a preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of a 2015 Honda motorcycle, 66-year-old Mark S. Cousineau, of Falling Waters, W. Va., was traveling westbound on Red Bank Road and attempting to make a right turn onto Route 13, when he was struck by a 2008 SUV traveling the right of way on northbound Route 13.

Cousineau was thrown from the motorcycle and died upon impact, Anaya said. The driver of the SUV, identified as 33-year-old Christopher Damian Tolbert, of Chesapeake, and three other passengers were not injured in the accident.

Neither alcohol nor speed played a contributing factor to the accident, according to Anaya. Notification has been made to family members, she said.
