ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP)- Former NAACP head Ben Jealous has endorsed Maryland Rep. Donna Edwards in her bid for a U.S. Senate seat.
Jealous said Friday that Edwards has been leading the fight for good jobs, investments in urban communities and a criminal justice system that is fair and equitable.
Jealous says Edwards will be a voice for Maryland's working families and a champion for civil rights.
Edwards is running against Rep. Chris Van Hollen for the Democratic nomination for Senate.
Van Hollen also has support from civil rights leaders. They include Linda Plummer, president the Montgomery County chapter of the NAACP, Tessa Hill-Aston, president of the Baltimore City chapter of the NAACP and June White Dillard, former president of the Prince George's County chapter of the NAACP.
