DOVER, Del.- Students from across Delaware have come to Legislative Hall to serve in the 2016 Youth in Government meeting.

It is sponsored by the YMCA. They are holding legislative sessions, debating and voting on bills. There are 175 students in attendance from 26 schools across Delaware.

Katherine Caudle works for the YMCA, and she says it is an opportunity for students to learn about the government in their lives.

"They come here to learn about the government and those different aspects of [it]," she said. "So they learn about lobbing, and they learn about how the press works within the government."

Anna Ives-Michener goes to Cape Henlopen High School, and she came his weekend to serve on the press team. They are writing news stories, making videos, interviewing representatives and covering everything that happens in their government.

"I really enjoy politics," she said. "I think this is kind of my chance to see where everything goes on."

The executive branch is in full swing, too. Vilas Annavarapu, a senior at Charter School of Wilmington, is serving as the 2016 Youth Governor. He spent the day in Gov. Markell's ceremonial legislative office.

"I definitely want to pursue a path in government," he said. "And I think Youth in Government was a really, really big reason as to why it fostered that love for public service inside of me."
