MILFORD, Del.- Police are investigating a deadly crash that happened just south of Milford.

According to Delaware State Police, Milford Police officers pulled over a car on S. Walnut Street just after 11:30 p.m. As the officers got out of their car, they say the driver, 35-year-old Lemar Campbell, drove away.

Police say Campbell then left the Milford town limits and continued to travel southbound on N. Old State Road. As Campbell attempted to negotiate a slight right hand curve in the roadway, he lost control of the SUV, left the road and hit three trees before overturning.

Campbell, who was not properly restrained at the time of the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene. Alcohol use on the part of Campbell is being considered as a factor in the crash.

Two other men in the SUV were removed from the scene by EMS and transported to the Milford Memorial Hospital where they were treated and released.

North Old State Road in the area of the crash scene was closed for approximately 3 hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.

This crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit.
