Suspect Arrested After Man Shot in Dover Home Invasion

DOVER, Del.- Dover police have arrested a suspect accused of shooting and injuring a 22-year-old man during a late Sunday night home invasion.

Police said the incident happened at around 11 p.m. at a home located on the 100 block of Willis Road.  According to investigators, 24-year-old Hakeem Leonard forced his way into the home via the victim’s bedroom window.  Police said Leonard, who was armed with a handgun, fired several shots, striking the victim in the chest once. The victim fought with Leonard who fled the scene, authorities said. 

The victim was transported to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital where police said he remains in stable condition. Police said Leonard was arrested at Bayhealth Kent General after he arrived seeking treatment for his injuries sustained during the fight with the victim.

Leonard was charged with home invasion, first-degree assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and criminal mischief. He was ordered held in default of $100,100 secured bond.

Police said this was the second of two home invasions that occurred on the same block of Willis Road late Sunday evening. Several suspects are wanted in connection with the other incident
