Police ID Man Killed in Crash Near Delmar

Posted: Updated:

DELMAR, Del.– Delaware State Police have released the name of a 37-year-old man killed in a late Monday night car crash west of Delmar.

Troopers identified the victim as William R. Tressler of Laurel, Del.

Police said that shortly after 10 p.m., Tressler was driving a Mini Cooper northbound on Providence Church Road just north of Pine Branch Road when he lost control of the car as he entered a slight left curve. Troopers said the car went off the east side of the roadway where it struck a driveway culvert, which caused the vehicle to go airborne and strike a ditch embankment.  The car continued north and struck a tree with the front bumper before rotating clockwise and coming to a stop, investigators said.  Troopers said that shortly after coming to a stop, the driver was pulled from the vehicle as it became engulfed in flames.

Police Tressler who was the car's lone occupant, was transported by EMS to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Md., where he was pronounced dead.

The DSP Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing its investigation into this incident.  Providence Church Road was closed for approximately three and a half hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
