DOVER, Del.- Dover police say a tipster aided officers in the arrest of a 22-year-old man on firearm and related charges.

Police said that at around 9 p.m. Tuesday, officers responded to the unit block of South New Street after receiving a tip that Zechariah Gilbert was carrying a handgun. Gilbert was described by the informant as wearing all black clothing, according to police.

Officers said that as they arrived on the scene, Gilbert saw them and ran.  Police said as Gilbert fled, he threw the gun, which officers later recovered.

Officers took Gilbert into custody and he was charged with possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, resisting arrest and tampering with physical evidence. He was ordered held in the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center on $6,500 secured bond.
