CENTREVILLE, Md.- A Centreville family was able to escape their burning home unharmed, thanks to their dog who alerted them to the fire, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office.

Just before 9 a.m. Sunday on 311 Stanford Road, Kevin and Dominique Weeks said their dog alerted them to a fire that started in the detached garage and began to spread into their home. According to investigators, 35 firefighters were able to control the fire in approximately one hour. The Weeks, their two children and their dog were able to get out safely.

Investigators ruled the fire accidental and said it was caused by an electrical failure within an outlet. The fire caused $80,000 in damage to the structure and $75,000 in damage to the contents. The fire also caused significant damage to two cars and a motorcycle, investigators said.
