DELMAR, Md. – A Berlin man was arrested and charged with driving under the influence after he was found driving on the wrong side of the highway in Delmar.

According to the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office, a deputy stopped a vehicle driven by 28-year-old Santiago Cervantes-Hernandez just after 4 a.m. on April 23, after receiving several reports that Cervantes-Hernandez was driving southbound in the northbound lanes of Ocean Highway.

The deputy noticed a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Cervantes-Hernandez and asked him to exit the vehicle. The sheriff's office said Cervantes-Hernandez stumbled and almost fell while getting out of the car. The deputy had to assist Cervantes-Hernandez with walking to the rear of his car, authorities said. After performing poorly on a field sobriety test, the deputy placed Cervantes-Hernandez under arrest and gave him a breath test, with a result of .24 blood alcohol content, according to investigators. .

Cervantes-Hernandez was charged with DUI and ordered held in lieu of $10,000 bond.
