CHANCE, Md.- Investigators are searching for the cause of a Tuesday morning fire that destroyed a large home in Chance, a community located right next to Deal Island in Somerset County.

The Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office said the blaze broke out shortly after 7 a.m. at the three-story home, located at 23367 Haines Point Road.

Deal Island Fire Chief Donald Ford said it was a raging fire when they arrived.

"We got a call about a quarter after seven that we had a house on fire at Haines Point Road and flames were shooting out of the roof. By the time we got there, the whole house was fully engulfed," Ford said.

Firefighters from the Deal Island and surrounding fire companies responded to the fire, which investigators said took approximately three hours to get under control.

The fire caused an estimated $180,000 in damage to the structure and another $40,000 in damage to its contents. There were no reported injuries.

The fire's cause and area of origin remain under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the Salisbury office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal at (410) 713-3780.
