HARRINGTON, Del.- Delaware State Police say a Lincoln man is facing numerous charges after leading troopers on a chase that ended in a fiery crash.

Police said the incident happened shortly after 9 a.m. Tuesday as troopers were patrolling the Harrington area after backing up the Harrington Police Department in connection a domestic incident that occurred in the Clarks Corner Apartments.

Police said a trooper spotted 24-year-old Tyrell M. Waters of Lincoln, who was wanted by the Harrington and Dover police departments for domestic assaults, as he was driving out of Friendship Village off West Street. Police said when the trooper attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Waters' Mercedes Benz, he refused to stop and continued through Harrington and across South DuPont Highway (US13) onto Carpenter Bridge Road.

Investigators said Waters continued northeast on Carpenter Bridge Road, before turning southbound on Jackson Ditch Road, where he crashed into a Ford Fusion being operated by a 27-year-old Milford man in the area of Lillian Drive. Police said Waters then got out of his car, which caught on fire, and ran into some nearby woods where he was finally taken into custody after a brief struggle with troopers.

Police said Waters was transported to Bayhealth Milford Memorial Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and released. He was then taken to Troop 3 in Camden where he was charged with resisting arrest with force (felony), disregarding a police officer’s signal (felony), offensive touching of a law enforcement officer, and reckless driving.  He was arraigned at JP2 and committed to James T. Vaughn Correctional Center on $5,001 secured bond on those charges.  He also had eight capiases out of various courts in Kent and Sussex counties.

The 27-year-old driver of the other car was not hurt in the crash, police said.
