Fire Damages Interstate Container Building in Cambridge

Posted: Updated:

CAMBRIDGE, Del.- Authorities have ruled as accidental a late Monday afternoon fire that caused tens of thousands of dollars in damage to a business in Cambridge.

The Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office said the incident happened shortly before 6 p.m. at Interstate Container, at 903 Woods Road.

It took 59 Cambridge firefighters an hour and a half to get the blaze under control.

Investigators said the fire caused an estimated $20,000 in damage to the 130,000-square-foot metal-framed building, and another $30,000 in damage to its contents. There were no reported injuries.

Deputy state fire marshals determined the fire started due to the buildup of cardboard debris around running motors on the roof below the silo container, which transfers the ground cardboard back into the building for collection.
