DOVER, Del.- Vice President Joe Biden spoke at Delaware State University's Saturday commencement ceremony.

The ceremony took place in DSU's Alumni Stadium and saw 8,200 attendees. Approximately 700 students graduated, according to Carlos Holmes, a spokesman for the university.

Saturday's ceremony comes during DSU's 125th anniversary year. Biden complimented the students while also sharing life advice.

"You're the most tolerant, talented, technologically-advanced generation in American history," he said.

Students WBOC spoke with say most people forget who their commencement speaker was, but they won't soon forget that they got to her from the Vice President of the United States.

Shakirah Abdul-Rashida received Presidential Academic Excellence Award at Saturday's commencement ceremony. She earned a cumulative 4.0 GPA at DSU.

"He was saying how when you become successful basically to stay humble and remember where you came from," she said. "Remember that people are still equal to you."

Leslie Fogwe received the Presidential Leadership Award.

"It was such an inspiring day," he said. "I'm originally from Cameroon, so I never had the privilege to meet someone like Joe Biden before. I won't forget it."

Biden's final message to the graduates was to be humble and to always remember others.

"Remember the neighborhood you came from," he said. "Remember those who didn't have your chance."
