OCEAN CITY, Md. - The Ocean City Coastal Highway repaving project was set to be complete Monday, but rain is pushing the end date to Friday.

The project started in mid-March to repave and restripe nearly five miles of the Coastal Highway from 60th Street to the Delaware state line.

The deadline is Memorial Day weekend. However, according to Maryland State Highway Administration officials, the project was ahead of schedule and on track to be finished Monday.

So far, the southbound lanes are finished. One northbound lane from 123rd Street and up is set to be worked on Tuesday and complete Tuesday evening.

After that, the turn lanes from 85th Street to the Delaware line will be worked on Wednesday through Friday.

Officials said if there is more rain this week, that would be pushed to next week, but they do not anticipate having to do that.

Digges Bosley works at Uber Bagel right on the highway and said he's looking forward to the project being complete.

"It was just single lane out here," he said. "They were working on it in the middle of the day when a lot of people... some food vendors, delayed some deliveries here and there, but overall it wasn't too much of a big deal."

Wilshawn Edwards drives up and down the main road for work everyday and agreed.

"When it was closing down traffic, it wasn't the greatest, a lot of frustration, but it's for the better," he explained. "The highway's getting better, last night I was actually amazed about the road is actually so smooth now."

Once the repaving is done, all that is left to do is paint on the final striping, which officials said is a quick overnight job.
