SMYRNA, Del. - Dover Police arrested two Dover men early Wednesday morning after a brief standoff in Smyrna.

At about 6:15 a.m., officers from the Dover Police Department and US Marshal’s First State Fugitive Task Force attempted to contact James Dobbins, 28, at a home on Kathleen Drive, according to police. Officers say Dobbins had multiple arrest warrants out from Dover and Camden jurisdictions as well as a violation of probation and Escape (Absconder from Home Confinement) from Delaware Probation and Parole.

Prior to making contact, police say officers observed a white Cadillac leave the home, which was reported stolen from Dover.  Officers arrested Tony Cobb, 31, following a short vehicle and foot pursuit after attempting to stop the vehicle.

Officers say they then returned to the home on Kathleen Drive and attempted to contact Dobbins, who refused to come outside.  The Delaware State Police Special Operations Team responded to assist and Dobbins surrendered a short time later without incident.

Dobbins is charged with three counts of motor vehicle theft, attempted motor vehicle theft, second-degree conspiracy, and violation of probation escape.

Cobb is charged with resisting arrest, failure to stop on command, theft of motor vehicle, and multiple traffic violations.

The Dover Police Department thanked the Smyrna Police Department, Delaware State Police Department, and the US Marshal’s First State Fugitive Task Force for their assistance in this incident.
