Salisbury Family Displaced After Apartment Fire

Posted: Updated:

SALISBURY, Md.- The Red Cross is assisting a Salisbury family displaced by a late Thursday night apartment fire, authorities say.

The Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office said the blaze broke out at around 11:30 p.m. in Apt. A of a three-unit apartment building located at 507 Collins Street. The home's occupant, Dieufaite Tanis, discovered the fire, which took Salisbury firefighters about 15 minutes to get under control.

The fire caused an estimated $5,000 in damage to the apartment and another $3,000 in damage to its contents.

There were no reported injuries.

The American Red Cross of Delmarva said that following the fire, members of its Disaster Action Team were on site to meet with Tanis' family of five and meet their emergency needs of food, clothing and lodging, as needed.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Salisbury Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal at (410) 713-3780.
