SALISBURY, Md.- Five people were transported to the hospital on Sunday following a two-car crash on the Salisbury Bypass.

Maryland State Police said that at around 3 p.m. troopers responded to the scene of the crash in the northbound lanes of the bypass at the Snow Hill Road exit.

According to police, a Nissan Altima was traveling northbound when it drove off the road, hit a metal road sign and then re-entered the northbound lanes.

Troopers said the car was then hit by a Chevrolet Equinox on the driver side door while traveling northbound on the bypass.

Troopers said two of the three people in the Nissan and all three people in the Chevrolet were taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center for unknown injuries.

The northbound lanes of the Salisbury Bypass were closed for nearly an hour while troopers investigated the crash.

According to police, troopers charged the driver of the Nissan with several traffic violations.

Police said they do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.
