SALISBURY, Md.- Wicomico High School's Destination Imagination Team is set to compete on a world stage in the Destination Imagination global competition in Tennessee. The Destination Imagination challenge sets to inspire students to become the next generation of innovators and leaders through specific challenge projects.

Wi-HI DI Team Manager Rebecca Matthews said the idea for the team project was inspired by the perceived reputation of the school and its students.

"This team is really tied to Wicomico High School and so they're community service event was about making Wi-HI better. We had all read an article in the Spring about coming to Wi-HI and in the community where people fall and how they felt about Wi-HI," Matthews said.

Team member Becky Aydelotte said the perception of the school and its students was not good, so the DI students set out to change that through the community service challenge and meme event.

"We decided that we wanted to take the reputation Wi-HI typically has as being a bad school, or having bad students and we wanted to enhance our school pride so we took charge in the courtyards," Aydelotte said.

The lackluster courtyard needed a lot of TLC. It was colorless, filled with shrubbery and uninspiring. The team spent a lot of hours working on the challenge. The final project was presented to the Maryland State judges in a silent movie style performance, and it set a record.

"No one in the Maryland Destination Imagination community knows of another team that placed first in all three categories, which this team did," Matthews said.

Team members said it was the best feeling ever winning the state title and they are excited to compete in the global competition. Wi-HI's Destination Imagination Team left Monday for the global competition in Tennessee.
