SALISBURY, Md. - Salisbury Police are searching for multiple suspects in a stabbing that happened Wednesday night near Salisbury University.

Around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, officers said they responded to the area of the Clairmont Shopping Center on S. Salisbury Blvd. for a reported assault with a knife. The investigation revealed that a 21-year-old man was walking through the parking lot of the shopping center when he was accosted by seven to ten other people, both on foot and bicycles. Police said the victim got into a verbal argument with one of the suspects, and when the victim attempted to leave, he was chased and then assaulted by the group. Police said the victim fell to the ground and was repeatedly punched and kicked.

The suspects ran away on foot. Police said responding officers and detectives searched the entire area in an effort to find the suspects, but were unsuccessful.

Further investigation revealed that the victim was stabbed one time in the upper portion of his back. The victim was transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center where he was treated and released for non-life threatening injuries, police said.

It is not known if the victim was familiar with the suspects. They are described as black men between the age of 16 and 20 years old. One of the suspects was described as being thin and having light facial hair.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information or anyone who was in this particular area at that time is urged to contact the Salisbury Police Department (410) 548-3113 or Crime Solvers (410) 548-1776.
